Huang Chi-yen, born in Taiwan, is a composer intrigued by the subtle changes in timbres and power of musical gestures in both acoustic and electronic music. He also shapes the sonic world that connects directly to the spiritual realm and to the emotional experience to the audience.

His music has been performed in mdi Newmusic Week, Taipei International New Music Festival, TimeArts Studio concert, International KuanDu Arts Festival, C-Lab (Contemporary Culture Lab, an area for development of the technology, academic research and contemporary creation in Taiwan. In addition, C-lab has been collaborating with IRCAM since 2018.) Diversonics Festival, New York City Electroacoustic Music Festival (NYCEMF). He has also collaborated with mdi Ensemble, TimeArts Studio performers, National Symphony Orchestra (Taiwan Philharmonic), Jun Märkl, Mei-Fang Lin, Shih-San Wu, Chun-Hao Ku, among others.

Recently, he is honored to have professional experience. In 2023, he was selected as visiting artist of a communication project of C-Lab and IRCAM. In 2022, he was selected as artist-in-residence in C-Lab. In 2019, Chi-Yen was awarded the scholarship from DAAD (Deutscher Akademischer Austauschdienst, DAAD) to participate the course “Deutsche Literatur und Musik” (German literature and music) at Otto-Friedrich-University Bamberg for one month.

Chi-yen graduated from master’s degree in Composition at Taipei National University of the Arts (TNUA) where he studied with Mei-Fang Lin. Also, he received his B.M. in piano performance at TNUA and M. M. in piano performance at National Taiwan Normal University where he studied with Chun-Chieh Yen. He has participated in master class with pianists, Roman Zaslavsky, Boris Giltburg, Ning An, Ya-Fei Chuang, and composer Lei Liang.

In 2023, he is going to pursue the Ph.D's degree at University at Buffalo with major in Composition. He was awarded with full scholarship from University at Buffalo for five years, and scholarship of government sponsorship for overseas study from Ministry of Education, Taiwan.
